CHINA TRANSPORT & PAYMENTS · SOURCES CHECKED 2 NOVEMBER 2026

Prepare for transport and payments in China.

Use official ticketing and payment information to prepare for rail journeys and everyday local transport. Rules and accepted methods differ by operator, city and provider, so confirm them for your trip.

A PRACTICAL PRE-TRAVEL CHECKLIST

Know where to confirm each detail.

01

Use the official rail channel

Check train routes and tickets through China Railway’s official 12306 English site or app. China Railway warns that it does not handle ticketing problems from other websites.

02

Match the booking ID

Enter your details exactly as required by the official service. Keep the valid original ID used for the booking available for station entry and travel; check current instructions before departure.

03

Check local transport by city

Metro, bus and other local transport payment methods differ between cities and operators. Check the local transport authority’s current instructions, ticket options and service notices before setting out.

04

Prepare more than one payment option

Official visitor guidance describes bank cards, mobile payments and cash among the available options. App verification, accepted cards, limits, fees and merchant acceptance vary; check provider terms and carry a suitable backup.

05

Plan for changes

Read the ticket’s change and refund rules before purchase. Keep the confirmation and the payment method used, and check the current 12306 notice for any fees or deadlines that apply.
